The Advanced Grid Institute (AGI) is a collaborative partnership between Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) and Washington State University (WSU) on a mission to solve critical grid modernization challenges. Since 2018, the AGI has been working to accelerate research and development of advanced grid modeling tools and operational technologies our future power grid will require. This quarterly newsletter brings you research updates, timely announcements, news, events, and developments of interest to the AGI community.
Wei Du Named Interim Co-Director of
the Advanced Grid Institute
The Advanced Grid Institute appointed PNNL Electrical Engineer Wei Du as an interim co-director. The PNNL-WSU joint institute makes this announcement as co-director Jeff Dagle undertakes a temporary assignment for the Department of Energy. Read More.
Save the Date—AGI Industry Day 2024
AGI Industry will take place on August 28, 2024 at WSU Tri-Cities in Richland, WA. This year’s theme is “Nexus of Power Systems Engineering and Advanced Analytics Toward a Resilient and Decarbonized Grid.” Bookmark the webpage for more information as it becomes available.
AGI Day 2023 Recap
As we prepare for AGI Industry Day, taking place on August 28, we invite you to take a look back at our 2023 AGI Day for a summary of productive conversations and panels that we hope to bring to you again this year. AGI Day facilitates conversations around AGI’s goal of advancing power systems across the United States and the world. Read More.
CITADELS: A Decentralized Approach to Grid-Edge Coordination
With rapid decarbonization goals and ambitious urban electrification targets, the electric power distribution systems are undergoing unprecedented changes. In a recently completed project, CITADELS– led by PNNL, WSU collaborated with PNNL researchers to investigate new distributed/decentralized grid management strategies to increase the operational flexibility of the grid. UI-ASSIST Translates Research and Development into Real-World Field Demonstrations
The U.S. India CollAborative for Smart DiStribution System wITH STorage (UI-ASSIST) project was an ambitious international effort to translate research and development including modeling, simulation, and system studies in the areas of advanced distribution systems and microgrids, into field demonstrations that tested these results in real-world situations, considering the similarities and differences between India and the US. A comprehensive final report summarizing key findings was published in September 2023. Read More.
