This newsletter brings you research updates, timely announcements, news, events, and developments of interest to the AGI community.

| View in browser Fall 2021 The Advanced Grid Institute (AGI) is a collaborative partnership between Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) and Washington State University (WSU) on a mission to solve critical grid modernization challenges. Since 2018, the AGI has been working to accelerate research and development of advanced grid modeling tools and operational technologies our future power grid will require. This quarterly newsletter brings you research updates, timely announcements, news, events, and developments of interest to the AGI community.   MISSION AND STRATEGY AGI Industry Day 2021 a Success In August, AGI hosted an engaging virtual technical exchange featuring speed talks by AGI researchers and conversations with regional industry partners discussing their perspectives for research priorities and educational/training needs. The video recordings are now available for viewing. RESEARCH AND PROJECTS Supporting Avista's Shared Energy Economy Model Pilot As part of Avista's $3.5 million matching grant from the Washington Department of Commerce Clean Energy Fund, AGI is supporting the Shared Energy Economy Model Pilot in Spokane's University District. This innovative project will test the integration of distributed energy resources – from rooftop solar and battery storage to building energy management systems – that can be shared and used for the benefit of the utility, the consumer, and the power grid. WSU and PNNL are part of a broad ecosystem of partners supporting the project. Learn more about the pilot. PEOPLE WSU-PNNL AGI appoints Dr. Noel Schulz Co-Director Dr. Noel Schulz has been appointed Co-Director of the WSU and PNNL AGI. Schulz, the Edmund O. Schweitzer III Chair in Power Apparatus and Systems in the WSU School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, co-leads the institute with Jeff Dagle, chief electrical engineer at PNNL. She previously served as the AGI’s interim co-director. Learn more about Dr. Noel Schulz.  Dr. Anjan Bose is a Recipient of the CIGRE Medal 2021  This year, the International Council on Large Electric Systems (CIGRE) granted Dr. Anjan Bose a "CIGRE Medal" in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the development of CIGRE. Bose has been a CIGRE member for more than 35 years and has over 40 years of experience in industry and academia as an engineer, educator, and administrator. He is well known as a technical leader in the power grid control industry. Read more about CIGRE and Dr. Anjan Bose. Kevin Schneider (PNNL/WSU) Appointed PNNL Laboratory Fellow Dr. Kevin Schneider, Manager of the Distribution and Demand Response Sub-Sector at PNNL and AGI Research Professor at WSU, has been appointed laboratory fellow, one of PNNL’s highest distinctions for scientific and engineering staff.  Learn more about Dr. Kevin Schneider's appointment. Join The AGI Team WSU Pullman is hiring for several faculty positions in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science areas related to AGI. Applications are welcome at all levels (assistant/associate/full professor), including PhD trained professionals with academic, industrial, and national laboratory experience. Please share with others who may be interested in these opportunities. Learn more.   EVENTS AGI-ESIC Seminars In conjunction with the Energy Systems Innovation Center, the AGI hosts monthly seminars on topics relating to energy transformation and the power grid.  View the complete fall semester seminar schedule.
