FIELD NOTES: TFiT's Change in Habitat Team Prepares for Field Season

April_FieldNotesTank_Test_photo

The Triton Field Trials (TFiT) team is preparing for the upcoming field season by calibrating and testing underwater observation technologies. At MCRL, the Changes in Habitat team is conducting tests on a 360-degree BoxFish camera, which records underwater video for species composition surveys. The team is testing the instrument in a tank as well as deploying the device from a boat in Sequim Bay. These tests allow the researchers to acquaint themselves with the equipment, practice deploying the instruments, and troubleshoot any issues in a controlled environment. This type of testing also helps the team prepare to work together, assures the technology is calibrated, and confirms the methodologies to collect data are finalized before heading to the field. Join Triton in celebrating Earth Day 2021 on April 22! This year's theme is Restore Our Earth, which focuses on encouraging global leaders to discuss and work toward solutions to climate change. Triton is working to accelerate marine energy installation by balancing our need for renewable energy with protecting the environment. As marine energy progresses, we are able to decrease reliance on fossil fuels.
